Coronation Street Star Tanisha Gorey has revealed more information about the aftermath of her character Asha Alahan’s upsetting latest storyline. Asha is left distraught this week when photographs and video clips of her stripping off for her love interest Corey were put on a group chat before going viral. The show has already confirmed that Asha’s father, Dev (Jimmi Harkishin), will find out next week and decide to report the incident to the police.
Speaking of Dev’s reaction, Tanisha explained, “He’s really moving into rage mode. He’s disgusted, he’s ashamed, he’s got Asha’s mum’s memory, which he’s barely talked about after her death. “This really hits home. It shows how angry and disgusted he is in her.” Tanisha continued: “More than anything else, she’s just so ashamed that both her father and Aadi saw it and saw her in that way. It affects her both mentally and physically.” But when they start witnessing the trolling she’s going through, they jump to her side and get into defensive mode. I know that whatever she’s done, she doesn’t deserve any of this. Initially, Asha urges Dev not to involve the police, believing Corey may have been responsible, and not wanting to put him in trouble. However, after the video is uploaded online Dev eventually visits the police station to make an official complaint.
Tanisha explained, “Asha thinks it’s Corey who put the picture out there, so she feels it’s her own wrongdoing, and she doesn’t want anyone else to know about it.” She just wants the ground to open up and swallow it, she doesn’t wan She thought she could trust Corey and made a poor call to judgment. She is humiliated and she no longer wants to dredge it all up, because it’s bad enough. Coronation Street will also explore how the situation affects the Asha’s self-esteem. The previous storyline saw a teenager start using illegal skin lightening creams as she was insecure about her appearance.

Tanisha added, “The skin’s lightening obsession broke her down as a person and made her hate herself. Now that’s happened, and she’s suffering from all the comments that people make, that’s another level.” I think she sheds another layer of her self-esteem. She’s trying to be strong by going to school, but as the days go by, it’s going to escalate and she’s going to wear it more and more. “Coronation Street is currently airing on ITV on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m.
