CORONATION Street will welcome back Abi Sharpe actress Rachael Elizabeth next month but as a different character. Sun Online can reveal that she's going to play a mom who fights with Gemma Winter in her parent and baby group.
She's already back on the set, with a source discovering: "She's already filmed a few episodes and will be on screen in early March." Rachel played Police Constable Abi Sharpe from 12 December 2007 to 12 December 2008.
She only appeared in 14 episodes during that period and was seen to have an on – and off relationship with bookie Dan Mason. After having eye surgery that was caused when she tried to break up the fight, Abi left the show in 2008.
Insiders tell The Sun Online that Rachael's character is going to clash with Gemma, has been struggling since the quads were born.
She's found it hard to meet all her children's needs and keeps referring to herself as a bad mom, despite support from Chesney's boyfriend and her closest friends.
She also lost confidence after the Freshco ad campaign edited her and Chesney out of the promotional posters and used only the babies.
Gemma keeps thinking that she's not good enough, and Rachael Elizabeth's character is showing up as a new character in the baby, and the parent group is only going to make matters worse.
Rachael is not going to be the first actor to play different characters in the same soap.
Gemma Winter's mother, Bernie, who arrived on the cobbles in July 2019, appeared 35 years ago as Sue Clayton in a different character in Weatherfield.
Bernie (Jane Hazelgrove) originally played a cheeky teenager, Sue, the youngest sister of a family who moved to the street between January and August, 1985-but the family failed to make an impact on the street and was quickly written out.
Actor Mark Chatterton played four different roles in Corrie, with his first appearance in 1986 and his most recent role as owner of a pawn shop coming November last year.
